Similar methods to the making of peanut glutinous rice ball, black sesame glutinous rice ball is another highly sought after dessert during Winter Solstice (冬至).
4 tbsp granulated sugar
4 tbsp unsalted butter (½ stick)
Methods:-
1. Lightly toast the black sesame seeds over medium fire until the aroma of black sesame seeds is smell. Don’t burn the black sesame seeds; transfer them out and let cool as soon as they smell aromatic.
2. Grind the black sesame seeds (with food processor / mortar) until fine. Transfer the ground black sesame into a non-stick pot, add sugar and butter and stir well to form a thick paste. If the mixture is too dry, add more butter. Dish out and let cool in the fridge. (This will make the filling easier.)
The only different in recipe between these 2 glutinous rice balls are the filling. For the black sesame filling:-

This year, to make something special, I make some kaya glutinous rice ball, cherry blossom pattern & cat paw glutinous rice 'balls'. The latter 2 has no fillings in them, you basically just form the same as how you would clay, it's rather fun :)
The black sesame glutinous rice ball is the best of all, peanut comes in second, kaya is a bit weird, the rest are purely for cosmetic purpose. Love the blossom pattern ones! (the green ones are matcha flavoured)
