Mr.T & I was in Tokyo for holiday in April, and as usual, I can't help but buy quite some number of Japanese food related product (typically Hokkaido milk candy, green tea candy, soba, chocolate coated potato chips, matcha powder etc). This time, in our food shopping trip, I found ready made mentaiko pasta sauce. I've never try the real mentaiko pasta before (not even in Japan despite being there 3 times already), so with a little skeptic in my heart, I bought a pack of the pasta sauce (for 2 portions).
My problem with travel bought food is that I usually buy so many things that I tend to forget them after putting them into my pantry. When I clean up the pantry recently, I found this mentaiko pasta paste again, and decided to give it a try.
The packages comes with the sauce & pre-cut seaweed, but I toasted my own seaweed, added some lumped fish roe & a pan seared scallop. It can be any pasta but I only have spaghetti so that's what I use. The result? We love it. Al-dente spaghetti with slightly spicy sauce and the taste of seafood accentuated by the toasted seaweed, yum.
